Welcome to Week 5 - Craig Invite

Hello everyone,

Welcome to week 5! There's lots to cover today!

Week 4 Recap:

All last week, we had multiple days of meet preparation for those competing at Rapids as well as those who are getting ready to compete at our first dual meet against Middleton. Ally, Tea, Derek, and I are very proud of the hard work everyone is putting into their routines. As we hit the middle of season and our routines get locked in, we will balance our time across gaining new skills and working on the consistency of skills and routines.

At Rapids, our competitors did great for their first meet of the season and earned us a team score of 118.325 (out of 160 total). This number is in alignment with team scores we have gotten in the past at Rapids and as competitors continue to improve their routines, skills, and consistency, we will start to see this team score crawl up across the season. Our goal is that by the end of season, we see a steady increase in our score that is reflective of the hard work of each competitor. Competitions are helpful for me as well as I take feedback from the judges and judging score cards to help figure out where each athlete needs to focus their time to help improve their scores.

Some highlights for each of our competitors:

  • Grace stuck her beam routine, earning her the FIRST 'No Fall' star of the season!

  • Sofia G competed her TWO giants successfully!

  • Genevieve had a deduction free back handspring on beam!

  • Sofia D's handstand pirouette was smooth and right on top of that bar!

  • Finja's first competed high school floor routine went great and she went for all her passes, even her new one she has been working so hard on!

  • Claire's vault has so much power and her twisting looks effortless!

  • Kate's wolf 3/4 on beam, something she has been working so hard to master, was stuck solid!

  • Amelia fought for and stuck her dismount on bars!

  • Sierra's twisting in her arabian and her back half looked AMAZING!

In total, our athletes earned 1 No Fall Star on beam and 7 Sticky Feets for stuck landings!

Janesville Craig Invite:

Our invite at Janesville Craig High School is on Saturday December 14th. We will have 2 vans transporting kiddos from Memorial to Janesville and back. Here is the lineup for Craig:

With these 12 listed, the vans are currently full. If any gymnast still wants to join us, please let me know. If there are parents that are planning to come up to cheer us on and are willing to bring along anyone we don't have room for, please let me know so I can connect you.

A reminder to our alternates and safeties to still bring a leotard, braces, grips, etc. We will be wearing the black leotard with the Spartan head on the side (similar to last weekend).

At the invite, there are 8 rounds total. We compete in the following order:

There will be concessions available at the school. The address of the school is 401 S. Randall Avenue, Janesville WI. Plan to park in the parking lot by the athletic complex and the main gym where we will be competing is by the entrance doors.

Jason's Deli Ordering:

We will have Jason's Deli as an option for this invite. If you would like a box for your athlete this weekend, please order. You have until Thursday night to place the order. Remember that you can buy one at a time and don't have to buy them all at once.

Media Day #2 (Monday 12/9)

We have our second and final media session at our gym that will focus on taking individual photos of each gymnast (pose shots and, if desired, action shots), class photos (all the freshmen, all the sophomores, etc), and team photos. This session is on Monday, December 9th at 5:00 PM and will last approximately 45-60 minutes. All the photos taken from this photo session will be available to gymnasts and families at no additional cost. This is a great chance for girls to get professional photos taken of themselves individually and also provides the team with images that can be used to promote the team and athletes.

I will get to the school early that day (4:00 PM) to open the locker room early and allow the girls to start getting ready in advance.

When taking our group and class photos, we will be using the black leotard with the spartan head on the side.

For individual photos, gymnasts are welcome to wear whatever leotard they want. I will be pulling out all our historical competition leotards (that go back to the early 2000's) and the girls are welcome to check out one of the leotards and wear it for their individual photos. Leotards just need to be returned before they leave that day and I will handle washing them.

Once we are done taking photos, we will have a quick post meet and a short practice.

Location of Routine Videos:

After each meet, I will send the girls the videos of their routines and also upload them into a Google drive. You can access the folder with all the videos at the following link:

Tardies & Unexcused Absences (Important!):

Tardies & unexcused absences will start impacting the ability to compete. Please ensure that athletes are to class on time and that any unexcused absences are being taken care of in a timely manner.

Spaghetti Dinner Sign Up: (Looking for 2 hosts still)

We have 2 spaghetti dinner spots still available to sign up for. If you are able to host or want to pair up with a parent to host, please sign up. If you want to reach out to other parents, I have attached the team contact list below. If we can't get these spots filled, we will go out for a team dinner instead.

A reminder that spaghetti dinners are dinners that are hosted by a family on the Monday of the week we have a dual meet. Dinner does not have to consist of just spaghetti. After practice ends on Monday, kiddos will head over for dinner, likely arriving around 7:20 PM. If you would like to host, the link is below:

Snack Donation Sign Up:

To ensure the girls have healthy snacks to fuel them for practice, I have a signup sheet where parents can sign up to donate snacks to cover a week of practice. The link is below:

Team Contact List:

Below is a link to a list of all our coaches, gymnasts, managers, and parents. Please review your information and update the sheet, as necessary.
