Preparing for Season

I can't believe it's almost October and season is a little over a month away. Planning for season has been ongoing and I get more excited with each passing day.

There will be some new things to look forward to this season.

  1. New Head Coach

  2. New Assistants & Volunteers

  3. Altered Practice Times

  4. Return to Normalcy

Let's dive in to these changes a little bit more.

After many years of coaching, the previous head coach Michele Fuller stepped down from coaching to focus on her growing family. Her previous assistant coach (Danielle Moehring - me) stepped into the head coach position. Previous volunteer coaches (Caroline Smith & Natalie Statz) will be then moving into the assistant coach role. Danielle, Caroline, and Natalie are all alumni of Madison Memorial and previous gymnasts. Their combined experience coaching gymnastics as well as their previous experience as Madison Memorial gymnasts will make for an excellent coaching staff.

A new addition to the team as a volunteer coach will be Derek Moehring. Derek had three daughters that all went to Memorial, two of which were on the gymnastics team. Another new helper for the team will be Holly Oxley as the team photographer. Holly has a passion for photography and she hopes that her work will help highlight the teams beauty.

In order to accommodate schedules of all the coaches and provide more flexibility for the West gymnastic coaches (who will be welcoming a new baby into the family), practice times will be altered. Mondays and Thursdays will have later practices (from 7-9 PM) while Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays will have early evening practices (from 5-7 PM).

While safety is still on the mind in relation to SARS-CoV-2, there is a lot of hope that we will be able to return to normal in regards to team bonding activities. Things like spaghetti dinners and the team sleepover were not allowed last year for safety purposes but as of writing this, these things are once again allowed. With this in mind, there are many exciting team bonding events to look forward to throughout the season.

Finally, the team has a new website that will help me share everything throughout season. The website will include results from meets, pictures, videos, etc. If anyone has any recommendations, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Gym setup is planned for Sunday, November 6th. All gymnasts are required to attend and parents are welcomed and appreciated. I look forward to meeting all new parents and gymnasts as well as parents I may not have had the chance to meet before.

Cheers,

Danielle M.
