Week 3 - Thanksgiving Short Week

Hello everyone,

Welcome to week 3 of Memorial's gymnastics season! This is a longer email so settle in :)

Week 2 Recap: Last week we spent most of the week training on each event, aiming to knock out goals and build confidence mentally and physically. We had our first of two media days on Friday followed by coffee and lunch at the gym, where we discussed our first invite and then focused on routines. Numerous girls got their floor routines made over the weekend and I will continue helping make the last bits throughout this week.

Goals that were knocked out include (but are not limited to) Sierra getting her arabian on floor, Mel landing a front handspring front tuck on floor, Emme connecting a backwalkover-cartwheel on the low beam, Timmia going over the vault with a round off, Mariah doing a pullover on bars, Kate doing a round off on the low beam, and Natalie doing a flyaway on the high bar. Anyone that I missed, apologies (I forgot to take a picture of the goal board before I left >.<).

Our first inductees into our hall of fame for 2023 happened on Monday. Mia, Cami, Tenzin, and Genevieve were all working timers for flipping vaults. The minimum ask for the day was that two of the four flip their vaults once, to get the scaries out. These four girls exceeded that ask and all four of them flipped a minimum of one vault each! All four of them were inducted into the hall of fame as our 'four flip group' for going above and beyond expectations.

Our Hall of Fame works by coaches or gymnasts nominating an individual (or group) for above and beyond actions. This can include goal completions, competition milestones, sportsmanship, displays of teamwork, and more. Any gymnast who has a nomination can talk to a coach about this.

Week 3 Schedule:

Monday: Practice from 4:30 - 6:00 PM, Media Day #2 from 6:15 - 7:15 PM.

Tuesday: Weight Room from 4:00 - 4:45 PM, Practice from 5 - 7 PM.

Wednesday: Practice from 10 - 12 AM

Friday: No Practice Week 3 Plans: Monday: Bars & Open Gym with cardio at the end. Tuesday: Vault & Open Gym. Because we have the weight room that day, we will do light preventative maintenance at the end. Wednesday: Open Gym - this will be a good day to focus on routines. We will do a thanksgiving workout at the end. Media Day #2: Our second media day will be Monday, November 20th (after practice). Everyone MUST be in attendance. Girls will have time after practice to get into their competition leos, do makeup, hair, etc. We will take team photos, photos by class, individual photos and any action shots the girls want. Girls should plan out their poses and action movements ahead of time, if possible. Weight Room Practice / Bring sneakers: Our second mandatory weight room day is on Tuesday this week. Girls need to be in the lower weight room before 4:00 PM. The locker room will be opened by our AD right after school is done. I will join the girls as soon as I can get to the school. Girls need to have sneakers for weight room training. First Invite (Wisconsin Rapids): Our first invite is Saturday December 2nd in WI Rapids. We will have 2 SUVs plus Derek's SUV transporting equipment heading up North. Below is our list of competitors, as well as alternates and safeties.

With these 10 listed and the two that already requested to join us (Mariah & Kennedy), the SUVs are currently full. The safety alternate is used at high importance meets.and is someone that, in worst case scenarios when the alternate is already being used and another alternate is required, our safety can jump in at the last moment and compete. The intention is not to ever have to use the safety but to introduce the concept to the newer competitors, I want to use it at the first invite. Safety's need to bring their competition leos and whatever else they would need to compete the event they are selected for. We will talk more in practice about details the girls need to know. There are 7 rounds total. We compete in the following order: Round 1: Bars Round 2:Beam Round 4: Floor Round 6: Vault The schedule for the day is below: 7:00 AM: Girls Arrive at School 7:15 AM: Head to get coffee at Starbucks 7:30 AM: Leave Starbucks 9:30 AM: Arrive at School 10:40 AM: March in 10:50 AM: Bars warm ups begin 11:00 AM: Competition starts 3:00 PM: Meet ends.
