Hi everyone,
Welcome to Week 16! Can you believe it is Sectionals week!?
Week 15 Recap:
At Conference, both Varsity and JV scored the highest team score of the season! Varsity scored a 127.275 and JV scored a 102.6 - wow!
A special shout out to our JV all around queens Mel, Natalie, and Timmia and our Varsity all around queens Cami, Genevieve, and Mia. Being an all around gymnast is incredibly challenging and we are all so proud of every gymnast that pushes themselves to do their best on each event.
We did have some individual placements as well:
Cami Hurley - placed 6th on bars and 8th on all around.
Thank you to all the parents, friends, family, and gymnasts who helped make Conference a success. We had some very happy judges and despite some technical difficulties prior to the meet starting, everyone commented on how great they thought the meet ran. This was all thanks to everyone who donated their time and food this weekend. So again - thank you!
Week 16 Schedule:
Monday: Practice from 5 - 7 PM.
Tuesday: Practice from 5 - 7 PM.
Wednesday: Practice from 5 - 7 PM.
Thursday: Sectionals! Details below.
Friday: End of Season Meetings with Danielle from 5 - 7 PM.
Sectionals:
Sectionals is held at Sun Prairie WEST high school this Thursday night. This is the meet that determines what teams and individuals will make it to State. The top 2 teams and top 5 individuals will qualify for State, which is the following weekend.
Because Sectionals is on Thursday night, I will be asking for early release from school so we can prepare as a team. We will go out for lunch as a team and head back to the school and get ready together. My goal is to get the kids in a good mental headspace prior to us leaving Memorial.
Non-competitors are required to come to Sectionals to support their team mates that are still competing. We will figure out rides this week as well.
The schedule for the day is below:
12:15 PM: Meet in the gym to head to team Lunch (Danielle will release details later today about where we are going). Danielle and Sophie will be picking up the SUVs so we may arrive shortly before or after this, depending on how the pick up goes.
1:30 PM: Head to Starbucks for coffee
1:45 PM: Head Back to the school to get ready, do some team bonding, and start getting in the mental headspace.
2:45 PM: Load up the cars
3:00 PM: Leave Memorial
3:45 PM: Arrive at Sun Prairie
4:15 PM: Start General Warm Ups and Stretching
4:55 PM: March in
5:10 PM: Meet officially starts
We compete the following rounds:
Round 2: Beam
Round 4: Floor
Round 6: Vault
Round 8: Bars
End of Season Check Ins:
Regardless of the results of Sectionals, we will be having a post meet and end of season check ins with Danielle on Friday (2/23). If we were to have anyone qualify for State, that individual and a team mate of their choosing would continue practice into the last week of February. If we don't have anyone qualify, we will still keep the gym up and be offering coach / gymnast practices during that time frame. Any gymnast looking to join the coaches for a work out are more than welcome to do so while we wait for the highschool workshops to open up.
Gym Tear Down:
Mark your calendars! Gym tear down will be Sunday, March 3rd, at noon (12:00 PM). This event is required for all Memorial and West gymnasts. Because it's a tear down event, we usually don't need any parent assistance as it's pretty straight forward. Girls should be done LIKELY around 2:00 PM. Again - this event IS required!
Banquet Plan:
If you have any dates in March / April you know don't work for your family, please send along to me so I can plan appropriately. Our banquet will likely be on a Sunday and be at Bishops Bay Country Club.
Let's finish strong!!!
Cheers!
-Danielle
