Week 6 (12/12 - 12/16)

Happy Sunday to all and welcome to Week 6 everyone!

I can't express how proud I was driving home on Saturday. Here is a recap from Saturday.

Janesville Craig Invite Recap:

Clare Murphy tied for 4th place on vault with a score of 8.4 and Mia Walz got 6th place on bars with a score of 7.825. Congratulations Clare and Mia! We are so proud of you!

The team score increased by about 5 points, resulting in a 124.725. This was due to increased confidence from the girls on events and some new skills and routines being competed. I'm hoping this starts a trend of slowly but steadily increasing our team score throughout the season. A competition threshold was passed last week by Ava Riggins, allowing her to successfully compete her yurchenko 1/2 off on Saturday.

And again, we had some very notable sticks! Bars and beam were stick it heaven! On bars, Kate Erlandson, Tenzin Kyizom and Cami Hurley stuck their bars dismounts! On beam, Kate Erlandson, Claire Wendler, and Mia Walz stuck their beam dismounts. Again, every single step counts and these girls fought to glue their feet down.

On beam, Mia Walz gained her 1st No Fall star and Clare Murphy gained her 2nd No Fall star of the season.

Finally, Sierra Jones and Timmia Tetteh joined us as cheerleaders, moral support, score keepers, and videographers. Thank you both of you for your support on Saturday!

Safety and Competition Thresholds:

More skills are on deck to cross their thresholds this week. I am very proud of the girls for adhering to those rules and working hard to meet the requirements.

Thursday: Dual Meet with Middleton Friday: Meet Debrief and Open Gym Saturday: No practice or meet. Middleton Dual Meet: Our first dual meet is against Middleton High School. Here is the timing for the day: 4:15 PM: girls arrive at the gym and help set up tables for the judges 4:30: general warm ups start 5:00 - 5:20: Memorial warms up bars 5:25 - 5:45: Memorial warms up vault 5:55: March In 6:00: Meet starts 6:05: Memorial competes vault 6:30: Memorial compete bars 7:00: Memorial warms up beam and then competes beam 7:45: Memorial warms up floor and then competes floor 8:45: Rough estimate to the meet end time Dual meets include 15 spots for competing - 10 junior varsity (JV) spots and 5 varsity spots. I will give the girls the option to sign up for the events they want to compete Monday at practice and then the line up for who will be competing will be sent out Monday night. Because we have a smaller team, the chance that everyone can compete every event of their choosing is high. I highly encourage the girls to compete all the events they have been working on, even if they are nervous. Every meet is an opportunity to learn, gain confidence, and get some of the nerves reduced. For all parents - Anne Murphy sent an email about a pre-meet meet up at Schwoegler's on Thursday! If you have questions about this, please reach out to Anne. Thank you Anne for organizing! Team Spaghetti Dinner: Our first spaghetti dinner is Wednesday (December 14) after practice at 7:15 PM. Our hosting parents are Deborah and Rich Williams, Emme's parents. The address is 1706 Waterbend Drive, Verona. If you are interested in hosting a dinner (we have two spots left), the sign up sheet is here: Spaghetti Dinner Sign Up If you are looking for a parent to pair up with, you can access other parents emails here: Parent Contact List Items of note: The West coaches and I re-covered the low beam and it is AMAZING now! Jason Deli Sign Up: Don't forget to sign up for Jason Deli boxes for upcoming meets, if you haven't already and want to. Winter Break Planning: Due to the construction schedule, the school will only be available to us from 3 - 10 PM. I did sign us up for the gym spot from 3 - 5 PM, however, I am trying to see if we can get some earlier practices in at Badger Gymnastics Academy. I will provide more details next week on this but I wanted to at least give people the timing I knew I could get us in at Memorial. Final Note: The thing that was most notable at practices last week and the meet on Saturday is the amount of love the girls show each other. Seeing the amount of support the girls provide one another is truly beautiful. I can't express how much the other coaches and I love our time spent with them. See everyone on Thursday! Cheers, Danielle
