Hello everyone,
Welcome to Week 6 of gymnastics season everyone! It's hard to believe it's been a month and a half of season so far. This is a slightly longer email due to the amount of stuff we have going on this week and to cover from last week:
Week 5 Recap:
We had a successful fifth week of practice. On Wednesday, we focused solely on routines. In one practice, the girls completed 96.5 routines! Much more than the minimum request of 84 routines!
On Thursday, we had a double goal completion happen back to back for Amelia and Natalie! Amelia got her long hang kip on the high bar and Natalie also got her long hang kip on the high bar, with a castaway into a flyaway connection as well! These two achievements represent these two gymnasts commitment to one of the hardest events.
We also had Cami get her front-front on floor, Kate has successfully taken on a new jump series on beam (split 1/2, split jump, all sideways on the beam), and Emme has successfully taken on a new jump series on beam (straddle, straddle 1/4). Timmia, Natalie, and Grace all started drills to work twisting on vault and Mariah locked down her beam routine. Mel got her squat on back on bars and is working her jump to high bar and Timmia is SO close to getting her kip on bars. And so much more!
On Saturday, we had an awesome time at the Janesville Craig Invitational. We scored a 124.25, a two point boost from the week before. This put us in 5th place (out of 8). Tenzin placed 6th on beam with a score of 8.35. Tenzin won the Junior handstand contest and Cami won the Senior handstand contest. We had a total of 6 Sticky Feet and 2 No Fall stars on Beam. And more importantly, we had FUN!
I had multiple parents from other teams let me know that they loved seeing how much our girls supported one another and also, other teams. The level of cheering was terrific and we were by far the team with the most spirit and having the most fun. This is exactly how we should strive to be at every meet!
The goal throughout the season is to have a steady climb in our team score. This steady increase will come from increases in individual scores that will come from consistent routines, goals being accomplished, skills being added to routines, and feedback from judges that help us grow. For perspective, last year we had a steady increase in scores across the season that resulted in a 12 point boost when comparing the end of season to the start of season. This steady increase ensures we don't burn out but are always focused on growing and doing our best.
We had another inductee into our hall of fame. Please join me in congratulating Claire on her addition to the 2023 Hall of Fame! Claire was nominated for two reasons; the first reason is the numbers of beam routines she works into each practice. As a beam specialist, Claire is working to perfect her routine and ensure its consistency. This helps to guarantee a solid score on beam that her team can rely on. In addition to these numbers, Claire is an all time user of what we lovingly call 'the shakey beam'. Shakey beam had a new cover placed on it this year and had its screws tightened so it's in much better shape than in the past; however, it still has slightly more shake to it than our competition beam. Using a piece of equipment that is sometimes representative of other schools equipment is a huge advantage to the user. For her dedication and hard work on beam, Claire is very much deserving of her place in the hall of fame.

No weight room this week!
1st Team Spaghetti Dinner:
Our first team spaghetti dinner will be Wednesday after practice. A big thank you to Natalie's parents for signing up and helping us celebrate our first dual meet. For rides to dinner, have your girls coordinate with one another, the captains, or myself.
The address is: 1722 Shady Point Dr, Verona
First Dual Meet (Against Middleton):
Our first dual meet will be held at Memorial and is against the Middleton High School team. The line up will be determined on Monday evening, after I get the competition preferences from each gymnast. I will email it out once it's complete.
The schedule for the day is below:
Girls need to be in the gym ready to start helping set up at 4:00 PM. We will start general warm ups at 4:30. Official warm ups on each event will start at 5:00 PM. March in will be at 6:00 PM. I have heard that Middleton has a large team so if they fill their roster, I would expect the meet to go until 8:30.
The rotation of the dual meet will go:
Round 1: Memorial on Vault
Round 2: Memorial on Bars
Round 3: Memorial on Beam
Round 4: Memorial on Floor
I will pick up Jasons Deli on my way to the school. Because of how long of a day it is, please consider ordering your gymnast dinner or sending them along with extra food to help fuel them for the meet.
Jason's Deli Ordering:
To prepare for the upcoming duals, start placing orders for Jason's Deli boxes now. Remember that you can buy one at a time and don't have to buy them all at once. The link is below.

That's all I can think of for now (although I feel like I'm forgetting something). Let's make Week 6 a great week, full of energy, support, and success. Go Spartans!
